Terms of Service

Acceptance of Terms​

By accessing or using the Trading Card API service, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not access the service.

Description of Service​

Trading Card API provides access to trading card data through a RESTful API, offered on a subscription basis. Paid access is sold as the Starter, Pro, and Enterprise plans described on our pricing page, and is governed by the subscription, trial, cancellation, refund, and price-change sections below.

Subscriptions and Billing​

Plans and Pricing​

  • Starter — $19/mo, including 1,000 requests per 24 hours
  • Pro — $49/mo, including 10,000 requests per 24 hours
  • Enterprise — custom rate limits and volume pricing, individually agreed

Prices are stated in US dollars and do not include any taxes that may apply to you.

Billing Cycle​

Paid plans are charged monthly in advance, in US dollars, to the payment method on file. A billing period begins on the day the subscription starts or renews and runs until the same day of the following month. If the following month has no such day — for example a period that begins on the 31st and renews into a 30-day month, or on the 29th of a non-leap-year February — the period ends on the last day of that month. The billing day then returns to the original day of the month in any later month long enough to contain it. Request allowances are counted per 24-hour window and do not carry over between windows or between billing periods.

Automatic Renewal​

Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, at the then-current price for your plan, and continues until you cancel it. By subscribing you authorize us to charge the payment method on file for each renewal. If a charge fails we may retry it, and we will notify you before access is suspended for non-payment.

Free Trial​

Paid plans start with a 14-day free trial. No credit card is required to begin one, and one trial is available per customer.

If you have not started a paid subscription by the end of the trial:

  • API access is suspended and requests return HTTP 402 Payment Required
  • Your API key is preserved rather than deleted
  • That same key reactivates as soon as a paid subscription starts, so you do not need to re-integrate or issue a new key

Cancellation​

You may cancel at any time from your account settings, or by emailing [email protected].

  • Cancellation stops the next automatic renewal; it does not end the period you have already paid for
  • Access continues through the end of the billing period already billed, and then stops
  • We do not prorate or refund partial months — see the Refunds section below
  • Your API key is preserved after cancellation and reactivates if you subscribe again

Refunds​

Every plan begins with a 14-day free trial so the service can be evaluated before any charge. Monthly subscription charges are non-refundable once the billing period has begun, except where our Refund Policy provides otherwise. Cancellation does not prorate the current period, and access continues through the end of the period already paid for.

Our Refund Policy is the authoritative document on refunds, including how to request one and how billing errors and service outages are handled. Refund terms for annual and Enterprise arrangements are governed by the written agreement covering that arrangement.

Price Changes​

We may change plan prices. When a change affects your subscription:

  • We will give you at least 30 days' notice by email before the new price takes effect
  • The new price applies from your next renewal after that notice period, never mid-period
  • Cancelling before that renewal means you are never charged the new price

Founding subscribers hold their founding price for a defined grace period, which we state when the founding offer is made. The grace period is limited and has an end date; it is not a permanent guarantee of your price, and it does not fix your price for the lifetime of the account.

Service Changes and Versioning​

The API is versioned so that changes are predictable:

  • Endpoints are served under a stable /v1 prefix
  • Breaking changes ship only in a new major version
  • Endpoints scheduled for retirement respond with Deprecation and Sunset headers ahead of removal
  • Every change is recorded in our published API changelog

API Access and Usage​

API Keys​

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your API key
  • You must not share your API key with unauthorized parties
  • We may revoke or rotate an API key where it has been compromised, shared, or used in violation of these terms, and we will tell you when we do
  • Suspension for non-payment does not revoke your key — see Suspension for Non-Payment below

Acceptable Use​

You agree to:

  • Use the API only for lawful purposes
  • Respect rate limits and usage quotas
  • Not attempt to reverse engineer or replicate the service
  • Not use the API to harm our infrastructure or other users

Prohibited Uses​

You may not:

  • Resell or redistribute API data without permission — see Storing and Retaining API Data
  • Use the API for illegal or fraudulent activities
  • Attempt to overwhelm or disrupt our servers
  • Use automated scripts to scrape data beyond rate limits

Data and Content​

Our Data​

  • We provide trading card data "as is" without warranties
  • Data accuracy is not guaranteed
  • We reserve the right to modify or remove data
  • No guarantee of data completeness or real-time accuracy

Your Applications​

  • You retain ownership of applications you build using our API
  • You are responsible for your application's compliance with laws
  • You must include appropriate disclaimers about data accuracy

Storing and Retaining API Data​

This section governs card data you retrieve from the API — sets, cards, players, teams, and the relationships between them. It does not govern your personal data, which is covered by our Privacy Policy.

You May Store the Data​

You may cache API responses and compile them into a local database, index, or catalog inside your own application. There is no expiry requirement and no obligation to re-fetch on a schedule. We encourage this: caching reduces the requests counted against your rate limit, and our documentation recommends it.

Storage under this section is for use within your own product. It is not a grant to redistribute — see Restrictions below.

What Happens When Your Subscription Ends​

Your license to store the data is not permanent. When your subscription ends, a 90-day wind-down period begins, running from the last day of the billing period you have already paid for.

During the wind-down period:

  • You may continue to use data you retrieved while your subscription was active, within your own product, on the terms of this section
  • You lose the right to make further API requests
  • You receive no corrections, additions, or updates to data you already hold

At the end of the wind-down period, delete data retrieved from the API, including any local database, index, or catalog compiled from it. Two exceptions: routine backups that are not readily accessible in normal operation may age out on their ordinary schedule, and you may keep anything you are required by law to keep.

Suspension is not the same as your subscription ending. Access suspended for non-payment, or at the end of a free trial, does not start the wind-down period and does not require you to delete anything — see Suspension for Non-Payment below.

Where we terminate your access for a violation of these terms, the wind-down period does not apply and we may require you to delete data retrieved from the API immediately.

Storage under this section is a license, not a transfer of ownership; we retain all rights in the data, as set out in Intellectual Property below.

We may extend the wind-down period, or replace it with a longer or permanent retention right. If we do, we will say so here.

Restrictions​

These apply while you are subscribed, during any wind-down period, and to anything you retain under an exception above. You may not:

  • Redistribute the catalog as a catalog. Publishing, selling, or otherwise making available a bulk copy, export, dump, or substantial extract of the data as a dataset in its own right is not permitted. Displaying checklists inside your product to your own users is permitted and expected.
  • Sublicense the data. You may not grant others the right to use the data, including by exposing it through an API, feed, or bulk download of your own, without our written permission.
  • Build a competing dataset. You may not use the data to create, train, or populate a product whose primary purpose is to supply trading card catalog data to third parties. This restriction applies to data obtained from us; it does not restrict any catalog or dataset you independently built, hold, or obtained from another source.

Derivative Works​

You may normalize, deduplicate, re-key, merge, enrich, and reformat the data, and combine it with data from other sources. The output is yours to use in your own product, and the restrictions above apply to it only to the extent it still functions as a substitute for the data we supply.

Attribution​

Where checklist data retrieved from the API is displayed to your end users, credit Trading Card API as a source. A single visible credit in your product — in an about page, data-sources page, or footer — is sufficient. Per-record or per-page attribution is not required. We do not require use of our logo, and use of our name for attribution under this section does not grant any other trademark rights.

Accuracy​

Data is provided "as is." We do not warrant its accuracy or completeness, and data you hold during a wind-down period will not reflect later corrections. You are responsible for the disclaimers your own product presents to its users.

Service Availability​

Service Limitations​

  • No plan includes a contractual uptime guarantee or service-level agreement
  • Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance may occur
  • Data may be temporarily unavailable
  • Endpoints are retired only after a published sunset window

Termination​

Access can stop for two distinct reasons, which are treated differently.

Suspension for Non-Payment​

If a subscription payment fails, or a subscription lapses at the end of a free trial:

  • Access is suspended automatically and requests return HTTP 402 Payment Required
  • Your API key is preserved rather than deleted
  • Access is restored as soon as payment succeeds, using the same key
  • Suspension for non-payment is not a termination of your account, and none of your data is deleted because of it

Suspension or Termination for Acceptable-Use Violations​

We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these terms or for abusive usage patterns:

  • At our discretion, with reasonable notice when possible, and immediately where continued access would harm the service or other users
  • Fees already paid for the remainder of the billing period are not refunded
  • We may revoke API keys issued to the account

Intellectual Property​

Our Rights​

  • We retain all rights to the API service and data
  • Trading Card API name and branding are our property
  • You may not use our trademarks without permission

Your Rights​

  • You retain rights to your applications
  • A license to store and use our data in your applications, on the terms set out in Storing and Retaining API Data
  • Right to use publicly available API documentation

Disclaimers and Limitations​

Service Warranty​

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Liability Limitation​

IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

Indemnification​

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the API or violation of these terms.

Changes to Terms​

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated through:

  • Email notifications to registered users
  • Updates posted on our documentation site
  • Announcement bar notifications

Feedback and Communication​

From time to time:

  • We may contact you for feedback and feature requests
  • You may be invited to participate in user research
  • We appreciate bug reports and suggestions for improvement

Governing Law​

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Effective Date​

These terms are effective as of the last updated date above and remain in effect until replaced or terminated.
